Come see both bands at Battle of the Bands, Saturday, October 24, at the Normandy Fall Festival.
Twelve weeks. One band. One real show.
Every band has six spots: two guitars, bass, drums, keyboard and vocals. Where your child lands depends mostly on which rehearsal night works for your family and which spots are open in that night's band. Bands also come in two levels:
The Garage is for beginners and first-season students. Songs are chosen to be beginner-friendly, with more step-by-step guidance. The focus is confidence, fundamentals and fun.
The Electric is for returning students and experienced players. Songs are more ambitious, with more creative independence. The focus is performance, dynamics and expression.
Start with the songs. Songs are picked before rehearsals begin. Everything else, like the order of the set, the band decides together.
Get a head start. Before the first rehearsal, your child gets a pre-season kit made for their instrument: their role in the band, the skills to start building, their part in each song and a simple daily practice plan.
Rehearse every week. One two-hour rehearsal a week, on the band's own night.
Practice at home. A little practice between rehearsals goes a long way.
Play the show. The season ends with the band playing its full set live for family, friends and the community.
Each rehearsal starts with focused practice. Every student works on their own part at their own instrument, following a step-by-step task card written for that week. Then the whole band plays together for the rest of the night, running the songs start to finish and working on how to put on a show.
We provide the drum kits, keyboards, amps, microphones and sound system. Guitar and bass players bring their own instrument.
We recommend 15 to 30 minutes a day, four or five days a week. Short, regular practice beats one long session.
Each band has a shared Google Drive folder with everything your child needs:
Slowed-down versions of each song
Tracks with your child's part removed, so they can play along with the band
Chord charts and lyrics
A weekly practice guide with specific goals
Families get weekly updates and reminders in their band's private group on the Band app.
Students earn colored guitar picks for real milestones: playing a song all the way through with the band, playing the whole set from memory, practicing at home, and helping a bandmate. Picks go on a necklace, and nothing is handed out just for showing up.
The season ends on a real stage in front of a real audience. Each band plays its full set. When the bands are ready, the night ends with every student from every band playing one song together.
